Student Voice | Anti-Bullying | Breakthrough - Raising Achievement
At Caludon Castle we understand the need for quality care, guidance and support as the welfare of our students is of paramount importance to us.
We have strong systems which are designed to provide a caring and disciplined environment which supports students to excel in all areas of their learning, and become responsible, caring and active citizens.
Care, guidance and support are managed in the following ways:
Years 7 and 8 are in mixed ability tutor groups, supported by a tutor, Year Leader, Year Mentor and Assistant Heads. They meet as a group four times a week, with one session being used for assembly.
In Years 9, 10 and 11 students have a weekly academic mentoring session with their Academic Mentor, supported by a Year Leader and Assistant Headteachers. Academic mentoring is central to the co-ordination of the whole curriculum experience of students; it involves constant monitoring of all aspects of student achievement. Academic mentoring groups are usually made up of six students. This allows for academic mentors to get to know their students well and ensures effective tracking and target setting. Students have assembly once a week in year groups. Within academic mentoring we have a number of intervention groups who receive specialist input to match their need. These groups include: Breakthrough, Aim Higher and A/A* mentoring.
Academic guidance is excellent and extremely well organised. (OFSTED, 2008)
The support teams make full use of internal and external agencies, as appropriate, to facilitate in removing any barriers to learning that a student may have. Each year team meets formally once a fortnight in a Strategic Student Support forum, through which all internal and external support is coordinated.
Pupils and students are exceptionally well supported throughout the school. (OFSTED, 2008)
