Caludon Castle’s large Sixth Form moved into its new suite of rooms in the heart of the school a few months ago providing a vibrant, exciting and stimulating place to study. Expectations are high and results are already good and getting even better! All our students have access to a wide range of courses that are personalised to suit each individual student’s ability, needs and future aspirations. In addition to an extensive range of courses and enrichment activities, we offer a dedicated sixth form team who support, encourage and monitor student progress throughout the year. All we ask is a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
A recent report from OfSTED included these comments: “A very good range of courses caters for the diversity of students’ needs”…”Good teaching from well-qualified, energetic teachers”...“Sixth formers feel that teachers challenge them, that they are accessible and help them to study independently”.
As well as AS and Level 2 courses, Caludon Castle offers all students in Year 12 a core programme of courses. This programme is designed to both enrich and extend academic studies and prepare students for life after the Sixth Form. The programme includes:
• Tuesday am study support sessions for all, combined with COPE level 3 and Level 3 Extended project;
• Enrichment and Community Action: a two term placement helping in the community on a project of your choice. Options include assisting at a local Primary School, volunteering at the hospital and helping out a lower school class in a subject you are studying, peer mentoring and sports leadership;
• One Year Post 16 Course: unique One Year Level 2 Programme is a combined course which is designed to offer students broad training and widen career pathways through many progression routes including student apprenticeship, BTEC First and other Level 2 qualifications.
• Young Enterprise: set up and run your own business venture with advice from tutors and industry specialists;
• Work Insight or Experience programme in Year 12 for students;
• Higher Education preparation programme: visit to Birmingham University for all students, guidance on personal statements, UCAS support and finance advice, a visit to Oxford University for selected students and additional support for Oxbridge applications;
• Careers advice and guidance: outside speakers, from a range of industries and career fairs;
• Opportunity to be a member of the Finance Academy.
