SCHOOL MEAL SMART CARDS
We operate a cashless catering system.The system is controlled by the latest Smart Technology, and will provide a more cash free environment within the school.
The advantage to the student is that monies can be placed on to a Smart Card for use at a later date, avoiding cash having to be carried on a daily basis.
Each student will be provided with a card registered in his name. If a card is lost or stolen it can be immediately hotlisted to prevent its further use and any monies left on the card will be transferred to a new card issued immediately.
Students on a free meal entitlement will be issued with an identical card which will electronically be issued each day with the meal entitlement. This will avoid any discrimination.
The advantage to you the parent is that monies given for the provision of a school meal can only be utilised in the school canteen and not elsewhere. The burden of finding change each day is also taken away as cheques can be sent in at any time to top up the value of the card.
A print out can be provided on request showing the balance remaining on a card and also a description of food purchased.
The system provides a prompt when the balance on the card is low and needs to be re-valued.
The system also has a spend limitation to prevent over spending.
We feel that this system to be educational, teaching students to budget monies and protect credit/debit cards in later life.
Smart Cards are quicker in operation than cash as no change has to be provided.
Smart Cards will be available from the school canteen from the start of school in September.
