Student Support - Anti-Bullying

The Nature of Bullying

At Caludon Castle School we define bullying and intimidation as being deliberately hurtful, repeated often over a period of time and difficult for victims to defend themselves against.  We see that there are three main types of bullying:-

1. Physical – hitting, kicking, taking belongings, aggression

2. Verbal – name calling, insulting, making offensive remarks, including homophobic

3. Indirect – spreading nasty stories about somebody, social exclusion, sending malicious
emails or text messages on mobile phones.

Bullying of any sort will not be tolerated in Caludon Castle and that includes racist, sexist and homophobic bullying.

Anti-Bullying Enterprise

An Anti-bullying enterprise initiative was launched for the whole school in April 2005 through Anti-bullying events.  Since then Caludon has become a leading school in Coventry for tackling bullying.  Mr Smith-Childs currently represents secondary schools on the Coventry Anti-Bullying Strategy Group and we are involved in a path-finding Development and Research Project into tackling bullying, our focus being the classroom.  We are also involved in a path finder D and R project on bullying with other Coventry schools.

At Caludon we take a problem solving approach to tackling bullying at Caludon.

All students are given an anti-bullying card which tells them how they can report bullying.

Most incidents are dealt with by our Peer Mentors and designated staff.

A multi-agency approach is used to tackle more serious incidents

Our Peer Mentors are formally trained through the Peace Partners project and work with students across all year groups to support our work on Anti-Bullying.
