Caludon Castle School was founded in 1954 as a boys’ comprehensive school. It is now a co-educational 11-18 Comprehensive School of over 1500 students with a Sixth Form of 307 serving North East Coventry. The School is academically successful. In September 2004 the school was designated a Business and Enterprise College, by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust. This has been a central contribution to the school's development and creativity.
Caludon has been completely rebuilt as a £24million Private Finance Initiative (PFI) project. The final phase, centring on athletics track and additional outdoor sports facilities will be completed in Spring 2008. The School is situated on an attractive 67 acre site. There is excellent teaching accommodation, a 25m indoor heated swimming pool and extensive playing fields.
We have been a Business & Enterprise College since July 2004. This has enabled us to be both innovative and creative in our use of IT across the curriculum, and to fund a host of initiatives involving partnerships with primary schools, a neighbouring FE college and secondary schools, Gifted and Talented developments and Enterprise events involving all Sixth Form students in the North East Federation. Our new school has been built under the Private Finance Initiative Scheme. This provides ‘state of the art’ facilities for all areas of the curriculum, underpinned by innovative use of ICT.
Each faculty has a spacious ICT room for use with students, and staff resource rooms fully equipped with new computers. We have interactive whiteboards and video streaming in every classroom. Staff are provided with their own laptop and we offer high quality training for ICT throughout the year. Recent developments include access to wireless technology and we are embarking upon offering opportunities for parents, students and staff to access the school network from home. Our flexible learning suite facilitates multimedia based activities. In September we will be able to offer video conference experiences. We encourage faculties to use ICT to enhance student learning and provide superb resources to make this happen.
Out of classroom activities at Caludon are many and varied, and are regarded as central to our students' education. They offer students considerable opportunity for learning and enjoyment. Many competitions and activities are year team based, and the School enjoys a thriving life of Music and Drama. Sporting traditions are very strong in the School with excellent facilities, a range of teams and a strong fixture list.
